According to Premium Times, The long-awaited union of Nigerian music icon Davido and his fiancée Chioma in Lagos on Tuesday has become a focal point of widespread discussion both online and offline. The event, characterized by its star-studded guest list including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, governors, and numerous celebrities, has captivated the public’s attention.

Social media platforms have been abuzz with commentary and debates since the announcement of the wedding. One notable voice in the discussion is Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who stirred controversy with his remarks. He criticized the decision to host the wedding in Lagos instead of Chioma’s hometown in Imo State, attributing the choice to concerns over security in the Southeast.

Igbokwe explicitly pointed fingers at groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), suggesting their activities have contributed to the relocation of significant cultural events away from the region. His comments echo sentiments previously expressed by figures like celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest, who lamented the diminishing prominence of traditional ceremonies in the Southeast due to insecurity.

Expressing disappointment in his social media posts, Igbokwe urged fellow Igbo people to reflect on the situation and collaborate towards restoring peace and stability in their homeland. His words underscore a broader conversation about the impact of security challenges on cultural practices and social gatherings in Nigeria’s southeastern region.

He wrote, “Anybody who has Igbo blood running in him or her knows that there are known Gunmen in the SE and they are Igbo, our brothers and sisters. There are also ESN and IPOB. They have used their hands to crush Igbo land, our people, our businesses.”
