All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to confront the problem of the country's exorbitant food prices immediately.

Basic household staples, including rice, beans, garri, spaghetti, and many more, are becoming unaffordable due to their extremely high costs, he claimed.

The APC leader lamented that many Nigerians were disheartened and worried about their ability to pay for basic necessities as a result of the country's severe economic crisis. He further pleaded with the president to take into consideration the UN's warning that as many as 64% of Nigerians—82 million people—may go hungry by 2030.

The APC leader made the point that inflation meant that the hard work of Nigerians in various degrading jobs was still not enough to provide for their families.

Successive administrations, in his view, were unable to effectively propel the economy forward, despite the country's rich supply of natural and human resources. He claimed that the inefficiency and reliance on the crude oil income sharing system were preventing the various levels of government from governing a self-sufficient and productive economy that would benefit the general populace.
