Abuja, June 21, 2024 — The Nigerian Army has received its first batch of combat aircraft to bolster its fight against terrorists and bandits across the country. The delivery marks a significant enhancement of Nigeria's military capabilities as it continues to tackle security challenges, including Boko Haram insurgency and banditry in the northern regions.

The new aircraft, part of a strategic acquisition plan, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday. Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, expressed confidence that the advanced equipment would significantly improve the army’s operational efficiency and firepower.

“These aircraft will provide critical air support to ground troops and enhance our ability to conduct precision strikes against hostile targets,” Yahaya stated during a brief ceremony. He emphasized the army's commitment to restoring peace and security in affected regions.

The acquisition is part of broader efforts by the Nigerian government to modernize its military forces and improve national security. The aircraft, which include both attack helicopters and fixed-wing jets, are expected to be deployed immediately to hotspots.

Security analysts believe this move will help tip the balance in the ongoing conflicts, providing a much-needed boost to Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.
