According to People's Daily newspaper, MPs, Senators, and MCAs are set to receive salary increases effective July 1, 2024, as follows:
1. Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate: Sh1.18 million to Sh1.2 million
2. Deputy Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate: Sh0.94 million to Sh0.96 million
3. Majority and Minority Leaders: Sh748,768 to Sh800,019
4. Other MPs and Senators: Sh725,602 to Sh739,600
5. MCAs: Sh144,375 to Sh166,588.
This increase comes despite Gen Z youths proposing that these members' salaries be slashed. Recently, President Ruto, in a roundtable interview, agreed that it is time to look into this issue but mentioned it is not within his control, emphasizing a broader national perspective.
