Police in Jigawa State have arrested Mohammed Moda, a 22-year-old resident of Burtu village in Ringim Local Government Area, for his involvement in an alleged kidnapping extortion scheme, Daily Post reported.

According to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, the arrest follows a report by Yakubu Bala from Larabar Zango Village in Ajingi LGA, Kano State.

Bala reported that unknown individuals had threatened him, demanding a two million naira ransom to prevent his wife's kidnapping. The perpetrators provided a POS account located in Ringim town for the transaction. In response, Bala deposited nine hundred thousand naira into the specified account.

Acting swiftly upon receiving the report, detectives from Ringim Division acted on credible intelligence. They stormed the POS shop and apprehended Mohammed Moda as he attempted to withdraw the ransom. During the arrest, the police recovered seven hundred and ninety-two thousand naira from Moda.

"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and implicated one Bashari Beto as his accomplice," Adam stated. He assured that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend any additional accomplices involved in the extortion plot.

The recovered funds and Moda will be presented as evidence in court as part of the ongoing prosecution process. The Jigawa State Police Command continues to urge residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to prevent and combat crime effectively.
