Gabam says Buhari’s government is the worst that Nigeria has ever had
According to the report from the Channels, The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has criticized the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari for its failure to address Nigeria’s challenges, alleging that it left a struggling economy for President Bola Tinubu. Buhari, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), handed over to Tinubu approximately a year ago, but Gabam contends that Tinubu inherited a troubled economy from his predecessor.
Gabam described Buhari's government as the worst in Nigeria's history, attributing Tinubu's current economic struggles to the state of the economy he acquired. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gabam emphasized that Tinubu was faced with the task of rejuvenating a collapsed economy that required careful and deliberate revival strategies.
In response to the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, which contributed to a surge in living costs, Gabam criticized the abruptness of Tinubu's reforms, arguing that a more gradual approach was necessary to revive the economy effectively. Despite these efforts, inflation skyrocketed to a historic 33.69% in April 2024, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Gabam accused the economic handlers of the government of failing to implement appropriate measures and offered suggestions to improve the situation under President Tinubu's leadership. He stressed the importance of strategic thinking, meticulous planning, and methodical execution to navigate the current economic challenges, emphasizing the need to draw from past successful models and modernize them to suit present-day economic dynamics.
Highlighting the importance of utilizing available templates and historical economic management records, Gabam urged the Tinubu administration to adopt innovative initiatives to propel economic growth efficiently. By emphasizing strategic implementation and advising against rushed decisions, Gabam underscored the significance of a methodical and well-thought-out approach to address the current economic predicament and guide Nigeria towards sustainable recovery.
