According to the reports from Daily Trust,Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as a prominent voice advocating for a coalition with the aim of displacing the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government. In his critique, Atiku pointed out that opposition parties are "Even guiltier than the ruling party for the seeming lack of capacity to come together and galvanise a coalition that will retire the ruling party and articulate a plan of good governance" to earn the trust of Nigerians.Recognizing the urgency of unification among opposition figures, Atiku has been actively engaging with key opposition politicians. He firmly believes that failure to coalesce poses a significant threat to democracy, stating that "The fortunes of Nigeria lie in their forging a coalition."

Despite Atiku’s persistent calls for unity, the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) seems hesitant about the prospect of a coalition or merger. Following the conclusion of its 587th meeting in Abuja, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) clarified that the party is "Not in any merger talks with another political party." The PDP maintains confidence in its ability to secure electoral victories under fair conditions.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, affirmed the party's stance against a merger, highlighting a growing interest from Nigerians and former members returning to the PDP as a sign of electoral strength. Ologunagba reiterated, "The National Working Committee (NWC), after its 587th meeting, restates for the umpteenth time that the PDP is not engaged in any merger, fusion or amalgamation talks with any other political party or interest."

Emphasizing the party's resilience and electoral prowess in a transparent environment, the NWC urged both members and the international community to disregard any rumors of merger discussions. Ologunagba also expressed concerns over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), questioning its ability to conduct unbiased elections. He believes that the PDP stands a good chance of winning if elections are conducted fairly and credibly.
