Ronaldo: We Expect More

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on social media after Portugal's heartbreaking elimination from Euro 2024 by France on penalties.

Concerns arise that this could be the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star's last appearance in a major tournament with Portugal, as Ronaldo previously revealed that this would be his final European Championship.

Despite this, it seems the Al-Nassr forward may have some unfinished business with his national team.

Ronaldo, who was seen consoling his teammate and Portugal stalwart Pepe, 41, at the end of Friday night's defeat, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) today, asserting that his team 'deserved more.'

'We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For every single one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for all that you have given us and for all that we have achieved so far,' Ronaldo wrote.

However, the 39-year-old hinted that he might continue playing, adding: 'On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be respected and will continue to be built. Together.'

Ronaldo, who has scored 130 goals in 212 appearances for Portugal during his professional career, raised concerns about his future in international football.

'It is certainly my last European Championship,' he told Portuguese outlet, O Jogo, this week.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star failed to score a single goal from open play during the tournament and notably missed a penalty during Roberto Martinez's side's 1-0 victory against Slovenia in their first knockout match.

While this could be Ronaldo's last Euros, the 39-year-old might continue playing until the next World Cup in 2026. Although he did not score at Euro 2024, he was the Saudi Pro League's top scorer this season, and despite doubts about the league's competitiveness, Ronaldo continues to strive for excellence.
