Kenyans have been irked by the government’s recent remarks on the protests which were characterized by police brutality and goons looting businesses and vandalizing both individual and public properties. Most of the affected business owners who were interviewed by different media houses lamented as they counted losses, adding that most of their businesses were looted in the presence of police officers who failed to intervene and protect the businesses.

The government has however commended the police officers for acting professionally during the protests, a move that has been met by strong opposition from Kenyans who expressed contrary opinions terming the government’s remarks a "big joke". This is because most people expected the government, led by President William Ruto, to condemn police brutality, loss of life, and destruction of properties during the protests as the occurrences happened in the presence of the anti-riot police officers.

Larry Madowo, a renowned journalist who works with CNN is among those who expressed their discontent and disappointment with the government’s remarks.

“Kenyan ministers “commended security officers” for acting “professionally in very difficult circumstances” in demos where they’re accused of killing more than 40 protesters,” Larry Madowo posted on his official social media pages.

Other Kenyans also expressed their displeasure as follows.

Njoroge: "Very provocative indeed, what do you expect our men in uniform to do when they come face to face with the sponsored goons and criminals who hijacked the Gen Z initiatives have done was grave and treasonous."

Kiptoo: "They felt what it meant to have the people's wrath at their doorstep. Things are still boiling nicely, and they will not believe when the milk will be pouring out of the sufuria"

Otieno: This is a big joke. What's wrong with this government? Many people were killed and hundreds injured by the same police. That was not professional.

Wambua: "Kenya is a dry joke nation, whose state officers act or utter words exactly opposite of the reality! It's hard to be a Kenyan."

Momanyi: "The government of politicians is praising the rogue police officers who killed innocent souls. God will judge them on His own. May the blood of those killed innocently haunt these people to their graves."
