President of the Dangote Industries Limited, Mr Aliko Dangote, says Nigeria has all it takes to turn its economy around within months.

He stated this on Thursday while briefing State House reporters after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC).

The PECC, tasked with strategising a way out of the current economic situation in the country, has a mix of government officials, top private sector players,

and consultants including Dangote; Chairman of the United Bank of Africa, Mr Tony Elumelu; and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Bismarck Rewane.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun said the Council is to meet and report to the President monthly.

Reviving the economy: Tinubu unveils N2tn stabilization plan

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a N2 trillion accelerated stabilization and advancement plan targeting the revival of the economy in the short term.

The president presented the plan while inaugurating his Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC), drawn from different sectors of society and the economy at the State House on Thursday.

President Tinubu had on March 27 announced the constitution of the PECC, which he personally chairs, assembling members from the federal and sub-national governments, the National Assembly, as well as the private sector.

Samoa agreement signed in the interest of Nigeria – FG

On 28 June 2024, Nigeria signed the Samoa Agreement at the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States OACPS Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium.

The partnership agreement is between the EU and its Member States, on one hand, and the members of the OACPS on the other.

Negotiations on the agreement started in 2018, on the sidelines of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.

It was signed in Apia, Samoa on the 15th of November 2018 by all 27 EU Member states and 47 of the 79 OACPS Member states.

Tariff hike: Stop killing Nigerians, economy, Ajaero tells FG

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has urged the Federal Government to stop implementing policies that will “kill Nigeria and its economy”.

Ajaero said this in a statement in reaction to the recent move by DISCOS to hike the electricity tariff for Band A customers.

Discos across the country on Wednesday announced an increment for Band A customers. The new announcements come months after the previous increment.

The PUNCH reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission ordered the immediate upward review of electricity tariffs from Wednesday, 3 April.
