Jim Obazee, appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Special Investigator, has called on lawmakers to intensify efforts in addressing corruption, inefficiencies, and wastage within government operations.

Speaking at the ThisNigeria award ceremony where he was honored alongside four others, Obazee emphasized the pivotal role of the National Assembly in ensuring government accountability and efficiency.

According to Vanguard, Obazee highlighted recent shortcomings in government distribution of palliatives, urging state and federal lawmakers to utilize their oversight functions effectively.

He underscored their authority to scrutinize government expenditures and ensure adherence to statutory provisions, advocating for robust measures to hold ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) accountable for their actions.

Earlier findings by Obazee revealed irregularities in the approval of the securitization of N22.7 trillion under the Ninth National Assembly, citing violations of constitutional provisions and financial regulations.

Despite his recommendations to nullify these actions, subsequent approvals totaling N7.3 trillion were issued, prompting ongoing probes into the total sum of N30 trillion.

Obazee's tenure as Special Investigator, mandated to investigate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other key government entities, underscores efforts to stem financial mismanagement and corruption.

His role, rooted in constitutional provisions, aims to safeguard public wealth and enhance transparency in government operations.

The recognition of Obazee's efforts by ThisNigeria for exposing malfeasance in the CBN reflects ongoing public discourse on governmental integrity and financial accountability.
