According to Vanguard, Ahead of the gubernatorial election in Edo and Ondo States, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has confidently stated that the APC will emerge victorious against the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo state. Speaking with reporters in Osogbo, he emphasized the party's readiness and unity among stakeholders leading up to the poll.

Senator Basiru highlighted the surprising success of the APC's candidate in Edo, a former PDP member, who delivered his senatorial district to the APC for the first time in many years. This success, he noted, bolstered the party's confidence, aiming to remove Godwin Obaseki and his chosen successor from the government house in the upcoming September 21 election.

The National Secretary also turned attention to Ondo State, asserting that it firmly stands as an APC stronghold. He described Ondo as a one-party state, clarifying that the primary contest lies within the party itself to select its candidate. Drawing parallels to the Edo situation, he assured a mature and cordial management of any arising crisis within the party during the selection process.

Senator Basiru acknowledged the pivotal role of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in maintaining the party's unity and swiftly addressing internal challenges. He concluded by dismissing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a defunct political entity in Nigeria, further solidifying his confidence in the APC's dominance.
