Tension is high at Kilenda area in Igembe North, Meru county after bandits killed five people, including a police officer.
The incident happened following a heavy gunfire exchange between harders and bandits. The victims were shot dead as the cattle rustlers engaged police officers, who were hot on their trail, in an exchange of gunfire.
The County Commissioner said the bandits, suspected to be from Samburu County, raided the village and stole more than 159 livestock.
Responding to concerns raised by locals in the wake of the attack Taitumu, the County Commissioner assured the residents that the authorities will do everything possible to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. Serious investigations into the incident that include pursuit for the suspects has started in earnest, so that they can face the full force of the law.
Area MP condemned the attack and called for flushing out of the raiders who have been terrorizing area residents.
