When they asked if my parents were wealthy, I said no, the bandits said they should leave me-Victim

Suleiman Tanimu, a resident of Zangai community in Kankara local government area of Katsina State, recounted the harrowing experience he endured at the hands of bandits who kidnapped him just two days before the Eid El Kabir Sallah celebration. According to Sahara Reporters on Friday, Tanimu stated that he was forcibly abducted from his residence at midnight by seven attackers, physically assaulted, and kept captive for three days.

He mentioned that while held by the kidnappers, they requested money from his family and subjected him to severe conditions, such as restricted access to food and water. He mentioned that the robbers inquired about his parents' wealth. Upon learning they were not wealthy, one bandit proposed abandoning him, while another insisted they take him along.


He said, "They stormed into my room in Zangai, beating me with a gun before ordering me to go with them."


Speaking further, "When they asked if my parents were wealthy, I told them no. One of the bandits argued for leaving me since my parents had no money, while another insisted on taking me to their hideout."


He mentioned that on certain days, the bandits provided him with food and water only once, while on other days, they gave him nothing at all.


Due to increasing security concerns, Zamfara State has implemented a prohibition on nighttime motorcycle operations in all 14 local government areas starting from July 15, 2024.


Governor Dauda Lawal stated that the ban is intended to improve security measures and address the increasing insecurity in the state.
