Law Society of Kenya (L.S.K) President Faith Odhiambo has called on security agencies to move with speed and arrest criminals infiltrating peaceful protests along Nairobi.

In a video shared by the firebrand lawyer, the supposed criminals are seen harassing and stealing from citizens before fleeing from the scene.

The L.S.K president condemned the incident and called on authorities to arrest them.

“These are not protesters but goons. These are the ones who should be arrested,” she wrote.

The latest comes amid ongoing anti-government which have gained momentum in Nairobi. Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Trans Nzoia, Mombasa and Nakuru among others.

In Nairobi, the CBD was deserted as police engaged in running battles with protesters.

Police lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the crowds despite court orders issued last week. A section of protesters were also arrested.

The youths at the centre of the anti-government demos have vowed to picket today, July 2, 2024, and Thursday, July 4, 2024, to air their grievances and discontent with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Among the grievances include, overspending in the Kenya Kwanza administration, corruption, embezzlement of public funds, and public display of luxury using public funds within the leaders among others.

Last week, protesters staged demonstrations over the controversial Finance Bill 2024, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, forcing President William Ruto to withdraw the bill. During the protests, 39 people lost their lives to police brutality meted on them in an attempt to quell the protests.

“Data from our records indicates that 39 people have died and 361 [have been] injured in relation to the protests countrywide,” the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (K.N.C.H.R) said in a statement.
