Rainstorm Devastates Over 200 Houses in Plateau, Injuring Three

A destructive rainstorm wreaked havoc in the Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, causing significant damage to property and displacing several residents.

The violent storm, which struck early Monday morning, tore off rooftops and demolished more than 200 houses, including a healthcare center, classrooms, business premises, and poultry farms.

Despite the severity of the storm, fortunately, there were no fatalities reported. However, three individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The aftermath of the disaster has left many others homeless and in dire need of assistance.

The Miango Youth Development Association, representing the affected community, revealed that some displaced individuals have sought refuge in neighboring residences within the area, demonstrating the spirit of communal support in times of crisis.

In response to the disaster, local government authorities have issued an appeal to emergency agencies, urging swift intervention to provide relief and support to those affected. The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of the Local Government Area, Fidelis Adara, assured that necessary measures are being taken to facilitate assistance from the state emergency management agency and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Nuhu Nga, spokesperson for the Miango Youth Development Association, emphasized the urgent need for intervention from both the state government and NEMA to assist those who have suffered losses in the calamity.

As efforts are underway to address the aftermath of the rainstorm, the affected community remains resilient, rallying together to overcome the challenges posed by this natural disaster.
