According to a report by Daily Post, Jasper Uche, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has defected from the party.

Uche, who ran alongside Professor Uche Ikonne in the 2023 governorship election, announced his decision to leave the PDP in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Uche, his decision to leave the PDP was due to the party's failure to address the issues that have plagued it for years. "I have tried to work within the party to address these issues, but it has become clear that my efforts have been in vain," Uche said.

Uche also cited the party's lack of internal democracy and the dominance of a few individuals as reasons for his defection.

"The PDP has become a party where the voices of its members are no longer heard, and decisions are made by a select few," he said.

Uche's defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP in Abia State, given his influence and reputation in the state. His decision is also expected to have implications for the party's chances in future elections.

"I am leaving the PDP to join a party that truly represents the interests of the people," Uche said, without disclosing his new party.

Uche's defection has been welcomed by some, who see it as a sign of his commitment to good governance and his willingness to stand up against injustice.
