Man Utd is now looking to recruit two center halves, one of them is De Ligt.
United has already reached a personal terms agreement with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. But Everton values Branthwaite at almost £70 million, and Manchester United's initial offer of £43 million (with add-ons) was quickly turned down. According to many sources, Manchester United may recruit two new center backs given that Victor Lindelof's future is unknown and Raphael Varane left as a free agent three days ago. Their continued pursuits of De Ligt and Branthwaite are unrelated. Stated differently, the Red Devils have the option to sign two players instead of just one. Following United's success in negotiations with De Ligt's team over the past several days, a transfer for the player has taken center stage. The 24-year-old Bayern Munich player has reportedly been offered a five-year deal, according to reports from the Netherlands.
De Ligt has decided he needs to leave Bayern for the sake of his career, and he is ready to take the offer. After falling out of De Ligt's favor the previous season, Bayern had already added Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart to strengthen their defense even further. Additionally, a move for Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah is developing. Man Utd has reached out to Bayern Munich, who are willing to trade De Ligt for around €50 million, or £42.5 million. Add-ons may raise the price of the bargain by a small amount. Though a recent update from German publication BILD has placed doubt on the transfer, Man Utd's prospects were all looking good.
PSG Interest in De Ligt's move to Man Utd transfer
Currently, PSG has matched Man Utd by making contact with Bayern Munich. The French giant is showing genuine interest in signing the 45-cap Netherlands international and would be able to compete with United with regards to the financial aspects of the deal. As such, Man Utd are racing to wrap up an agreement and prevent a transfer hijack. To do so, United do have several elements in their favour. Firstly, the Erik ten Hag connection could prove pivotal in determining where De Ligt moves. Ten Hag previously managed De Ligt during their time at Ajax and signing the centre-back is understood to be a key aim for Ten Hag. Secondly, United’s interest with regards to forging an agreement on personal terms is far more advanced than PSG’s.
Regarding the potential completion date of an agreement, a recent update from Sky Germany indicated that it would not happen until the Netherlands' 2024 European Championship campaign comes to an end. After defeating Romania on Monday night, the Netherlands moved on to the quarterfinals and will take on Turkey in the round of eight on Saturday.
