Kano CP orders 24-hours security patrol

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba has ordered 24-hours security patrol in Kano and environs in order to respond rapidly to emergencies and distress calls in the state.

CP Garba gave the order during a strategic meeting with the Command’s Operational Commanders.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Police Commissioner said the order for 24-hours patrol became imperative as rainy season set-in and that which is associated with security challenges.

UniAbuja: ASUU celebrates exit of Na’Allah as VC

A day after Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah stepped down as the vice chancellor of the University of Abuja, following the expiration of his tenure, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU began the celebration of his exit.

ASUU said it would continue to celebrate the exit of the vice chancellor it claimed, destroyed the university in the last five years of his tenure.

Speaking at the end of its congress on Tuesday, the Chairman of UniAbuja ASUU branch, Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh ,said with Na’Allah’s exit,the union was ready to engage with the new management of the University, led by Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi to resolve the ongoing strike in the university.

Kogi gas fire explosion razes residential building, shops

Property worth millions of naira were reported to have been destroyed by a gas induced fire explosion that rocked a residential building hosting a set of shops within the Jamata community in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The fire incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday night when a gas cylinder exploded in one of the shops below the building, causing a massive fire outbreak that completely razed the building.

The Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Muktar Atimah, disclosed this incident on Thursday, shorty after visiting the victims of the explosion in company of the Lokoja Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Ademu, and other management team of SEMA.

Gombe residents seek govt intervention in rent hike

Some residents of the Federal Low-Cost, Government Reserved Area, Tumfure, and the State Low-Cost have lamented the arbitrary increase in the cost of house rents in Gombe State.

Arewa PUNCH reports that those affected are mainly visitors in the state who are on transfer from the Federal Government, Non-Government Organisations placement, as well as corps members.

Investigations conducted by Arewa PUNCH reveal that as a result of the growing trend, many of the residents have called for the establishment of rent tribunals to adjudicate some of the rent-related disputes.
