Manchester United are reportedly set to make an offer for one of Ligue 1's top defenders as they begin to make plans concerning their poor defensive showings this season.

The Red Devils has been at the end of some embarrassing defeats in the Premier League this season. Just recently, they suffered a 4 nil defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace and might ship in more goals when Arsenal visit them at Old Trafford for matchweek 37 encounter.

Recall, in the game against Chelsea, United were leading The Blues 3-2 before losing the game 4-3 in added time. Events like this shows how defensively poor they have been this season.

No wonder the club heirachies are already making plans for defensive reinforcements.

As reportedly revealed by GIVEMESPORTS, Manchester United are looking to sign highly-rated Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo this summer.

It has been stated that Man Utd view Todibo as a less expensive alternative to Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who is also in the club's wishlist.

United have already met with the player's representative and will reportedly make a formal bid for the 24-year-old this summer, once the transfer market opens on June 14th should they fail to land Branthwaite, who remains their first-choice option.

Todibo has been very good for Nice this season, making 27 Ligue 1 appearances, while helping his side to the best defensive record in the division with just 25 goals conceded and 16 clean sheets kept.

TRANSFER FEE:

Though TALKSPORT has previously claimed that a fee in the region of £40m will be enough to sign Todibo, there are reports suggesting that it will take more than that amount to see Nice release him this summer, as he is now wanted by some big clubs across Europe.

Furthermore, Todibo is still contracted with Nice for another three years and so it won't be easy for a deal like his to quickly go through. Also, the former Barcelona man has already been caped two times for France.
