Ex-Kogi Gov Bello Seeks Transfer Of Case To Lokoja

The immediate past Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello has asked the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, to transfer his trial in alleged money laundering to Lokoja.

Bello said that he preferred to be arraigned in Lokoja, being the place the alleged money laundering offence was committed. 

At a resumed sitting on Thursday, Bello, represented by his counsel, Adeola Adedipe SAN, informed Justice Emeka Nwite that a letter requesting for the transfer of the trial had already been delivered to the Chief Judge for his administrative decision.

Abia Vows To Protect Widows Right

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has said the state government will back all laws enacted to protect the rights of widows and their children to inherit landed property in the state upon the demise of their spouses.

Mrs Otti gave the assurance at an event to commemorate the 2024 International Widows Day celebration held in Umuahia, the state capital.

A statement made available to PUNCH Online on Thursday stated that the theme of this year’s event was titled; “Land Rights For Widows.”


Eno Releases N4.755bn For Payment Of Gratuities, Others

GOVERNOR Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has authorized released the sum of N4.755billion for the payment of gratuities, bonuses promised public service workers and wardrobe allowance for teachers in public primary, Secondary and technical Schools.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday, said the effort was in fulfillment of his campaign promises to retirees, civil servants and teachers in the state.

Udoh stated, “The breakdown of the release of these funds, which will help cushion the effect of the current harsh economic situation, is as follows.


FUTA Lecturers Decry Poor Funding Of Varsities

Lecturers in the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, have called on religious and political leaders in the country to appeal to President Bola Tinubu to improve university education .

The lecturers, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTA branch, lamented that the Federal Government had not been taking the university education seriously, particularly in the area of funding.

The chairman of the union in FUTA, Pius Mogaji , stated this while speaking with journalists at the rally organised by the union on the campus of the university, on Thursday.
