Obi should be ashamed of LP’s performance in Abia, PDP declares

The Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, Abraham Amah, has expressed deep concern over the situation in the state, describing it as a shame.

Amah criticised the Labour Party-led government’s actions, particularly its handling of public servants and infrastructure projects.

He said the LP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, should be ashamed of recent developments in the state.

A report by The PUNCH, a circular dated August 30, 2023, and signed on August 31 by the state Head of Service, Joy Maduka, stated,

“Following the ongoing reorganisation in the Abia State Public Service and in line with the provision of the Abia State Public Service Rules Nos. 02801 and 02803, I write to inform you that His Excellency,

the Executive Governor of Abia State has directed the disengagement of all staff employed into the Abia State Public Service from January, 2023 to date.”

Nigeria will overcome economic woes – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said Nigeria will soon overcome the current socio-economic challenges facing it, adding that the Federal Government is doing its best to salvage the situation.

Jonathan, who was represented by the traditional ruler of Abureni Clan in Bayelsa and Rivers states, Collins Daniel, stated this in Yenagoa on Friday,

while declaring open the Nigerian Bar Association, Yenagoa Branch Law Week 2024 with the theme, ‘The legal profession in a time of socio-economic uncertainty’.

He commended the NBA, Yenagoa Branch led by Somina Johnbull, describing the theme as apt in view of the present economic realities and that it was an opportunity for a reflection on general governance issues and the need to address them urgently for the wellbeing of the citizenry.

Jonathan stated, “May I also remind us that the present economic hardship ravaging this country is not limited to the legal profession as it pervades all professions and sectors, including the high and low.

FRSC vows to withdraw licences of unruly drivers

The Federal Road Safety Corps has said it would henceforth revoke the driver’s licences of recalcitrant drivers.

Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made this known on Friday in Abuja while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the 2024 Eid-el Kabir Special Patrol Operations held between Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 23.

He said that the Corps had realised more than ever before the increasing need for collective participation and collaboration of all stakeholders.

Mohammed also said the Corps leveraged this as a necessary variable tool that would help in achieving the mileage recorded within the periods under consideration.

Transformer theft: Gombe gov suspends village head, councillor

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the immediate suspension of the village head of Garin Majidadi in Akko Local Government Area, Mohammed Majidadi.

The Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, announced the decision in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.

The governor also approved the suspension of the Councilor representing Kumo East Ward, Abdullahi Panda.
