Lagos Flood: We are Homeless - Lagos Residents cry out

opera.com 2 days ago

After several days of intense rain, residential areas and main roadways in Lagos State are now under water. There was serious flooding in several parts of the city, including Ibeju-Lekki, Ketu, Oworonshoki, Oshodi, Epe, Sangotedo, and Awoyaya, as a result of the rain that fell on Wednesday for several hours.

In an interview with Vanguard, Some locals blamed the flooding on the careless disposal of garbage in the area, which spit the streams. According to Mr. Rasheed Ayobami, a local of Labora, the absence of a working drainage system in his neighborhood is the reason his house is underwater.

"Too much water is entering my compound; my house is completely underwater. I'm homeless since we can't sleep in the water at my new location because there is no drainage, which allows water to flow into residential buildings," he added. Seyi Arowosaye, a different citizen, criticised the city's clogged drains, which cause the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway to flood every year. In order to prevent floods, Arowosaye requested the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to unclog the drains and asked the locals to stop disposing of their garbage in the drainage systems.

Additionally, he asked the Lagos State Government to expedite the completion of the Sangotedo area road repairs. Mrs. Bola Fadugba highlighted the consequences of the rain and flooding in the Labora area, saying, "I live in Labora, but my family and I move to my younger sister's house in the Eputu area during the rainy season." My house is under water because there is inadequate drainage in the surrounding area.
