In a recent report by Punch, Clark emphasized his long history and involvement in the state's creation, noting that he and Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye were instrumental in forming Rivers State. Clark criticized Wike for trying to maintain control over the political structures in Rivers State, stressing that these structures have been managed by various governors over time and are not the property of any single individual but belong to the state as a whole.

He emphasized that Wike was not yet born when Rivers was created and recounted his participation in the state's creation during a tumultuous period marked by the invasion of the Midwest by Biafran forces, which also affected Rivers State.
