Official: Nigeria's best player in Romania seals move to UAE's Al Wahda

Al Wahda FC, a United Arab Emirates giants, have completed the signing of Nigerian winger Philip Otele from Romanian club CFR Cluj, according to Soccernet. The 25-year-old has penned a four-year deal, tying him to the club until the summer of 2028. Reports suggest he will earn a lucrative €1.5 million annually, with Al Wahda paying a transfer fee of €3.5 million to CFR Cluj.

Otele's move to Al Wahda comes as a surprise, given his impressive form in Romania and interest from English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the Nigerian winger has opted for a new challenge in the UAE, expressing his excitement and pride in joining Al Wahda.

"I am extremely happy and excited for the upcoming challenges and competitions with Al Wahda," Otele said. "I am proud to wear this badge and grateful for the warm welcome and confidence from the club's leadership and management."

Otele's time at CFR Cluj was marked by a standout season, where he scored 18 goals in 40 appearances, making him the joint-top scorer in the league. His performances earned him recognition as Nigeria's top player in Romania and a place in the league's Team of the Season.

CFR Cluj have already prepared for Otele's departure, securing the return of Adrian Păun to the club. Meanwhile, Al Wahda have bolstered their attack with the addition of Otele, who is expected to make an immediate impact in the UAE Pro League.
