According to Vanguard, Motorists and commuters using the busy Enugu-Opi-Nsukka road are once again raising alarms over ongoing security issues, particularly along the Ugwogo stretch. Despite numerous security checkpoints dotting the road, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers continue to operate with impunity.

Last week, Nnadozie, the immediate past chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, was attacked on the road. Though he narrowly escaped being kidnapped, he sustained minor injuries from the gunfire aimed at his vehicle.

The attack occurred between security checkpoints, raising suspicions of possible collusion between the criminals and some corrupt security personnel. As a result, many motorists now avoid the road during the evening.

A regular driver on the Enugu-Nsukka route expressed frustration: "We don’t know what is happening on this road. Look at the number of security checkpoints with soldiers and police, yet we are not comfortable using it. How can we feel safe when criminals can attack a few poles from a security checkpoint, and yet, they cannot save you? We smell some foul play."
