Tight security as Police flood Imo State following recent killing

In response to a recent deadly attack in Okigwe, Imo State, the Police Command has intensified security measures in the area, particularly around Gariki, Ama Awusa, a locality predominantly inhabited by northerners.

The attack, reportedly carried out by unidentified gunmen, resulted in the tragic deaths of six individuals.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma assured residents of Okigwe, including traders at Gariki Market, of enhanced security during his visit to assess the situation firsthand.

He condemned the attack, attributing it to suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Danjuma emphasized ongoing collaborative efforts between police forces, military personnel, and local vigilantes to apprehend the perpetrators.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, Danjuma reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding lives and property.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

According to eyewitness reports, the attack began late at night, lasting until early morning, with gunshots ringing out continuously.

The police, alongside military units, are currently conducting extensive operations to curb further violence and maintain peace in the area.

The Commissioner called upon community members to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and relevant information that could aid in preventing future incidents.

According to Daily Post, Danjuma stressed that ensuring security is a collective responsibility that requires active participation from all stakeholders.
