NNPP: They Always want to distract the people from their apparent failure - APC

According to the report from the Vanguard, The All Progressives Congress (APC) has predicted that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will face electoral defeat in 2027 due to its handling of the Kano Emirate crisis. State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, made this assertion in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Abbas argued that the crisis will harm the NNPP’s electoral chances more than those of President Bola Tinubu. He also stated that the NNPP's presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, lacks the national appeal necessary to become Nigeria’s president. "The APC is now more united and popular and will deliver triple the votes it received in the last presidential election in Kano state due to the failures of the current administration," Abbas said.

Contrary to a media report by NNPP Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, Abbas insisted that it is the NNPP and its national leader, Kwankwaso, who will suffer from the ongoing Emirship tussle. Dungurawa had claimed that the crisis might negatively impact President Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027. Abbas dismissed this claim as a sign of the NNPP’s frustration both in Kano state and on the national political scene.

"The crisis of confidence within the factionalized NNPP and its leader, Kwankwaso, is exposing its dismal failures, even as it boasts of clinching the presidency in 2027," Abbas remarked. He noted that Kwankwaso's 2023 presidential run was intended to test his national appeal and maintain relevance, but it fell short. "Kwankwaso got 1,454,649 total votes, representing only 6.23 percent, mostly from Kano," Abbas noted.

Abbas pointed out that Kwankwaso received only 1.2 million votes, or 19 percent of the total, in the northwest, his geopolitical zone, and almost nothing in other regions. He questioned how Peter Obi, the Labour Party's candidate, managed to outperform Kwankwaso in 13 northern states.

"Aside from the poor performance of Governor Abba Yusuf's NNPP government in Kano state over the past year, the party's tendency to sponsor crises and its anti-people policies are factors voters will consider in the next election," Abbas added.

"The NNPP government in Kano state started on the wrong footing by going against the essence of governance, which is the people. They always want to distract the people from their apparent failure," Abbas stated.
