In response to Governor Sim Fubara's selection of Caretaker Committee Chairmen, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana has emphasised the need of keeping local government councils well-managed.

When elected officials' tenure end, Falana explained that it is lawful to designate temporary heads for local government bodies. He emphasised that present council chiefs might continue until new elections are organised when their tenures end.

"If there are vacancies because the tenure of elected officials has expired, you can ask the head of each council to hold office while arrangements are being made to conduct the election," Falana said in an interview with Arise TV. You can do it legally. The local government authorities will handle you if you leave. In a normal election, the process would have been identical to that of electing a governor. However, issues arose in this instance; the government was opposed to extending the terms of office of the local leaders. A great deal of uncertainty has resulted.
