"The Public Mood Is Not Right" Ruto Warned Against Implementing Fuel Levy Bill Due To Protests

The Finance Bill aftermath saw the proposed motovehicle tax dropped from being implemented as one of the laws pertaining to tax in the country. As a result the Kenya Kwanza government led by President William Ruto proposed increase of the Road maintenance levy from Ksh. 18 to 25 per litre.

UDA Membet of Parliament for Githunguri, Gathoni Wamuchomba has asked President William Ruto to drop the levy owing to the current situation filled with protest in the country.

She said that the current mood is not suitable for the government to increase the Road Maintenance levy as it would lead to more of tensions amid the ongoing protests.

She said that the Executive is not listening to the current economic situation in the country due to the proposed bill that is seeking to amend the section 3 of the road maintainence levy Act.

Her advise to the Ruto's government comes as the discussion is set to take place across the country's boardrooms in the entire 8 regions in the country on July 8, as announced by Road and Transport Ministry Cabinet Secretary Murmoken.
