Drop Petitions Against Aiyedatiwa- Ganduje To APC Aspirants

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, urged aggravated aspirants in the last Saturday’s Ondo State governorship primary to drop their petitions against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who won the poll.

 This was as aggrieved members of the APC, under the aegis of Ondo APC youths, on Thursday, besieged the party national secretariat in Abuja to protest against the outcome of last Saturday’s APC governorship primary in Ondo State that produced Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the winner.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election and Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, declared Aiyedatiwa the winner of the governorship primary with 48,569 votes.

Ex-APC Mobilizer Dumps Party For PDP

A renowned All Progressives Congress (APC) mobiliser in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State, Hon Ogini Kingsley Topa, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

Topa, a grassroot mobiliser popularly referred to as ‘ward 1 governor’ was former chairman of the committee for works and Housing in the local government area.

He said he left the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Governor Godwin Obaseki in developmental strides.


CBN Raises Customs Duty Rate By 11.1% As Naira Loses 12%

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised the exchange rate for paying Customs duties at the nation’s seaports by 11.1 percent in response to the crash in the value of naira against the dollar in the foreign exchange market.

Apex bank raised the Customs FX duty rate from N1,150.16/$ to N1,277.526/$ on Thursday, April 25, according to information obtained from the official trade portal of the Nigeria Customs Service.

This represents an 11.1 percent rise in rate when compared to the old rate of N1,150.16/$ previously used for opening Form M, and an increase of N127.366 on a dollar needed to clear goods at the port.


Equities Investors Gain N27bn In Bullish Run

The domestic equities market halted its bearish run yesterday, as gains in Transcorp Hotels Plc and 15 others buoyed the overall capitalisation gained N27 billion.

The All-Share Index rose by 48.00 points, representing a gain of 0.05 per cent, to close at 98,169.30 points. Similarly, the overall market capitalisation value gained N27 billion to close at N55.521 trillion.

The market positive performance was driven by price appreciation in large and medium capitalised stocks which are; Transcorp Hotels, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), MTN Nigeria Communications (MTNN), UACN and Transnational Corporation (Transcorp).


Dangote Cement Grows Sales As Volume Rises To 4.6MT In Q1

Strategies adopted by Dangote Cement to increase sales and ensure an adequate supply of products to customers are yielding the desired results as domestic sales volume increased, by 26.1 per cent to 4.6Mt in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024.

The cement manufacturers’ unaudited results for Q1 ended April 30, 2024 showed that the Nigerian operations volume rose significantly and positively affected the rise in the Group’s overall volume to 7.0Mt.

The company recorded a Group revenue of N817.4 billion, even as profit after tax inched up by 2.9 per cent to N112.7 billion. Earnings per share closed the quarter at N6.68 representing an increase of 3.7 per cent. As part of its sustainability programme, Dangote Cement commissioned ten of the 17 Alternative Fuel Projects across the Group.
