Tinubu announces injection of N2trn into economy for stabilisation, inaugurates council

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu on Thursday said his administration seeks to inject N2 trillion into the economy in the next six months.

President Tinubu stated this when he inaugurated his Presidential Economic Coordination Council, PECC, drawn from different sectors of society and the economy.

The President at the inauguration, presented the outcomes of his review of the accelerated stabilization and advancement plan.

Briefing State House correspondents after the inauguration, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, gave a breakdown of the areas to benefit the emergency funding to include Health, Agriculture, Energy/Power and other areas.

According to him, “The President has just inaugurated the Presidential economic Coordination Council and that is a body that is made up of the President’s Economic Management Team, the Legislature, represented by the leaders of the National Assembly; the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as very importantly, the sub-nationals, represented by the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, and, of course, the elite of the private sector.

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Enugu State Judicial Service Commission and the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

The State Judicial Commission, which has the the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Ozoemena Afojulu as the Chairman, also has the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh; and the President of the state’s Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Chibueze Nnamani. Others are Justice Reuben Onuora (Rtd.), Prof. Andrew Chukwumerie (SAN) , Hon. Gabriel Agbo, and Dr. Udechukwu Ezeh.

The seven-member Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy has the state’s Attorney General as the statutory Chairman, and Barr. Seth Nwokolo as Secretary, while Dr. Rita Emeh as member. The Nigeria Correctional Service, Carmelite Prisoners Interest Organisation (CAPIO), and the Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace (CIDJAP) also have a representative each.

Profs hail Tinubu for appointing Greg Mbadiwe as Unizik Pro-Chancellor

UNIVERSITY Professors from Anambra State on Thursday, commended President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of a seasoned economist and administrator, Amb. Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe MFR, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe is the first son of late Nigerian nationalist, Dr. Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe.

The university dons under the aegis Forum of Anambra Professors, FAP, stated that the appointment of Amb. Mbadiwe is a giant leap to further guarantee outstanding teaching and learning standards and make Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka the best of its kind in Nigeria and beyond.

The Forum, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Prof Ikechukwu Okafor, described Amb. Mbadiwe as a “diligent and prudent personality; a legal luminary, very brilliant, highly experienced and result-oriented administrator with exceptional capacity for innovative leadership” adding that his appointment as Pro-Chancellor is a step in the right direction.

“Our Forum appreciates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for choosing best hands for the much-needed multisectoral development and productivity in the country.

Makinde harps on importance of national unity to corps members

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has emphasised the importance of national unity in the National Youth Service Corps, highlighting the crucial role of the scheme in fostering a strong sense of cohesion among young people from different regions.

He made the remark on Tuesday, during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps Members at the Permanent Orientation Camp in OgbaKuta, Iseyin.

Makinde who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, lauded the NYSC for its efforts in bringing together a diverse selection of youths from across the country and urged the Corps Members to make the most of their service year, both in terms of personal development and contributing to the community.

The governor acknowledged the significant role of the NYSC in instilling a sense of national unity among young graduates and emphasized the importance of participating actively in the orientation program, which, he said, provided a variety of opportunities for growth and self-actualisation.
