Chelsea have shown once again that they can splash the cash after agreeing to another deal.
Chelsea have opened the wallet again after agreeing to a stunning deal with FC Basel to sign Renato Veiga. The 20-year-old is versatile and can play as a left-back or a left centre-back, with plans for him to be quickly integrated into the first team during pre-season.
Last season, he was ever-present in the FC Basel team, playing 26 times. In the league, he started 22 games, alternating between playing as a left-back and sometimes as a left centre-back.
He is now set to fly into London to complete a medical before signing what is expected to be a long-term contract at the club.
Chelsea are looking to go in a different direction and have signed new manager Enzo Maresca from Leicester City. He is expected to introduce a new style of play as well as compete for titles.
Chelsea have wasted little time in making their moves again this summer, having already impressively completed the signings of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, and Omari Kellyman, and they haven't even kicked off pre-season yet.
In the last two transfer windows, they have spent a reported £1 billion on players, and given how this summer has started, they’ll be competing for the best talents again. On the field, they are looking to improve massively, having finished a disappointing 12th in the first year under the Clearlake ownership. They improved on that with a sixth-place finish, winning all their last five league games. However, that was not enough to secure Champions League or Europa League football.
