The Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tony Aziegbemi, claimed that Edo State is the only state paying the N80,000 minimum wage without borrowing. He said the economy of the state moved from $11 billion in 2016 to $25 billion after Obaseki got in. Aziegbemi also thanked the people of Edo State for working with Godwin Obaseki, saying they do not take their support for granted.

As reported by The Punch News in an interview, Tony Aziegbemi said, "The Edo economy was $11 billion in 2016 before Obaseki got in, but now it is $25 billion. I can tell you that Edo State will be isolated from the economic woes that befall this country if the APC government continues this way. Edo State is the only state paying the N80,000 minimum wage without borrowing. I must thank the Edo people for the support it has given to the PDP and the government of Obaseki for over seven and a half years, and we do not take the support for granted."
