Borno, Nigeria – Intense clashes erupted between rival factions Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, resulting in numerous fatalities. Local sources reported that the violence broke out on the outskirts of Bama town, a region notorious for militant activity.

According to witnesses, the confrontation began late Monday night and continued into the early hours of Tuesday. Both sides suffered significant casualties, though the exact number of fatalities remains unclear. The infighting is part of an ongoing power struggle within the jihadist groups, which have splintered since Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau, was killed in 2021.

Civilians caught in the crossfire fled their homes, seeking refuge in nearby towns. "We heard heavy gunfire and explosions; it was terrifying," said a local resident. Humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the safety of displaced persons and the escalating violence in the region.

The Nigerian military has intensified operations to curb militant activities but faces challenges due to the rugged terrain and the militants' guerrilla tactics. The conflict between Boko Haram and ISWAP continues to destabilize the region, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and impeding efforts to restore peace and security.
