Former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted after a serving senator refused to answer a question about how much Nigerian senators earn monthly.

During a recent interview on Channels Television, Senator Yemi Adaramodu was asked to disclose how much Nigerian Senators take home as salaries and allowances every month.

There have been a lot of controversies among Nigerians concerning the humongous amount of money that lawmakers earn in Nigeria, and in the past years, there have been calls on the government to cut down on the earnings of the lawmakers.

In a bid to settle the controversy, Senator Yemi Adaramodu who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District was asked to let Nigerians know the amount of money that lawmakers earn, but he refused to disclose the amount.

Without providing a direct answer to the question, Senator Adaramodu who is a spokesman of the Senate said that the budget for the National Assembly is not up to 1% of the budget for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years.

Speaking further, Senator Adaramodu said that there is a Freedom of Information Act, and that the journalist can request access to the information about what Senators earn monthly and make the information known to Nigerians.

When asked again to simply tell Nigerians what he takes home monthly as a Senator, Adaramodu said that he cannot disclose the figure himself, and that the journalist should go and find it out himself.

Reacting to the issue, Senator Shehu Sani said that the question was a simple one that required a simple answer.

In the statement he made on X, formerly known as Twitter, Shehu Sani said, "Simple question that needs a simple answer."
