In Benin City, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has cautioned members of the "Legacy Group," a faction within the state's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging them to refrain from further splintering the party. During the inauguration of a 363-member Governorship Campaign Council, Obaseki expressed confidence in the PDP's ability to secure victory in the September 21 governorship election, projecting an 80 percent success rate for the party's candidate, Asue Ighodalo. He accused the Legacy Group of receiving funds from opposition parties to disrupt PDP activities and vowed to counter any attempts at sabotage, emphasizing the party's unity and resilience in Edo politics.

Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director-General of the campaign council, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to lead the party to victory.
