In a recent report by The Sun, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has spoken out about the deplorable treatment of prisoners in Nigeria and shed light on serious issues plaguing the prison system. Oshiomhole made a shocking comparison, stating that prisoners are treated worse than dogs, highlighting the dire conditions they face.

According to Oshiomhole, out of the 80,000 prisoners in Nigeria, half are still awaiting trial. He emphasized that this goes against the fundamental principle of the law, which presumes individuals to be innocent until proven guilty. The senator's statement draws attention to the alarming number of people languishing in prisons without a proper trial or conviction.

Oshiomhole also criticized the abuse of power by influential individuals who leverage their connections with police officers to oppress others. He revealed that these powerful individuals can make life extremely difficult for people through their influence over high-ranking police officers. This observation raises concerns about the integrity of the justice system and the potential for corruption and abuse of authority.

The senator stressed that prisons should serve as correctional facilities where wrongdoers are rehabilitated, not places where people are subjected to inhumane treatment or even killed. His comments highlight the need for significant reforms in the Nigerian prison system to ensure that the rights and dignity of prisoners are respected.

In Oshiomhole's own words, "We even take care of dogs better than Nigerian prisoners. The bad news is that out of the 80,000 prisoners, 50 percent are awaiting trial. In our laws, you are presumed innocent until found guilty. Oppression is the name of the game. A person will tell you that I will teach you a lesson, and with the connection of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), he can teach you more lessons than you can ever imagine."
