Dan Kakai, a Form Two student from Siritanyi Secondary School, tragically succumbed to his injuries after being fatally shot during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, particularly given the circumstances surrounding his death.

Kakai, an orphan who lived with his grandmother, Mama Sammy, was heading to a barber when he was shot in the back by police. The young student recounted his ordeal, explaining that he was simply minding his own business when the unprovoked attack occurred.

"I was coming from school and heading to get a haircut. When I reached the top near the post office, I felt a bullet hit me in the back. When I looked, a police officer had shot me; I don't even know how I ended up in the hospital," Kakai said in a hospital interview.

Despite the severity of his injuries, the police reportedly left Kakai writhing in pain on the ground. It was only through the intervention of a Good Samaritan named Edu that Kakai was able to reach the hospital. Edu's timely assistance was crucial, yet Kakai's condition continued to deteriorate, leading to his untimely death.

Kakai's final plea was for justice. He emphasized that he and others present at the scene were non-provocative, merely going about their daily lives when the police opened fire.

"They hurt me and just left me there. A Good Samaritan named Edu came and took me to the hospital, where I was treated. That's why I am here now. I want those who did this to face justice. They did not do the right thing. We were not being provocative. I was just minding my own business," Kakai struggled to say.
