Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has declared that all members of the parliament are colleagues and equal irrespective of their political affiliations, economic or social backgrounds.

He said that being a presiding officer, principal officer or chairman of a committee is a privilege granted by both the leave of the House and the mandate of the members, emphasizing that the position does not presuppose superiority.

He stated that there is no discrimination of any member whether old or new, ranking or no ranking.

LPPC shortlists 98 for SANs

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 87 lawyers and 11 legal academics for appointment as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).

A statement by the Secretary, Hajo Bello, invited the public to comment on the integrity, reputation and competence of the applicants.

Complaints must be accompanied by an affidavit deposed to before a superior court of record or a notary public.

“Publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process,” the statement said.

A notable name on the list is former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Vice President, Monday Onyekachi Ubani, who also served as chairman of the Ikeja Branch.

The Africa Centre, London in partnership with Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange, Nigeria (WSICE) will present a nine-day (Friday, July 19 to Saturday, July 27) celebration honouring Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday. UK polls: Voters to withdraw £235m from ATMs

Around 235 million Pounds (298 million dollars) is expected to be withdrawn from ATMs on Thursday as people go to cast their votes.

This is according to a forecast from UK Cash Access and Cash Machine network Link reported on Wednesday.

The network expects the total to be lower than it was on Dec. 12, 2019, when the last general election was held.

On that date, which resulted in Boris Johnson returning to Downing Street as Conservative Prime Minister, 322 million Pounds was withdrawn.
