In a surprise move, the Senate has cancelled its planned recess and will resume session earlier than expected to tackle pressing national and constitutional issues.

According to Senate Spokesman, Yemi Adaramodu, the decision was made to take advantage of the constitutional power of the Senate to regulate its sessions and make up for lost time.

Originally, the Senate was scheduled to resume on July 2, 2024, after its Sallah break. However, the lawmakers have decided to cut short their recess and reconvene this Thursday to address some critical matters.

According to the Leadership, Adaramodu explained that the aim is to utilize the extra legislative day to tackle pressing national concerns, including further oversight on appropriations and clarifying outstanding issues related to electoral matters.

The Senate Spokesman also emphasized that the chamber hopes to clear outstanding bills and motions before taking its annual recess later in the year. With this decision, the Senators are demonstrating their commitment to addressing the nation's needs and fulfilling their constitutional duties.

This sudden change in plans is a testament to the Senate's dedication to serving the people and addressing the country's pressing issues.

By prioritizing national interests over a well-deserved break, the Senators are setting an excellent example of public service and accountability.
