At only 33 years, Victor Prengei found himself in the Senate after being nominated by the Jubilee Party soon after the 2017 general election to represent the special interest groups.

Prengei who hailed from Nakuru County was a member of the minority Elmolo community that had long been marginalized.

Though Prengei was not very vocal in the Senate, he started to hit the headlines in 2020 over his allegiance to the then Deputy President William Ruto.

And so, in 2020, as President Uhuru Kenyatta started to stamp his authority in the leadership of the ruling party, Prengei was among those summoned by the party's disciplinary committee for failing to attend the Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting at State House.

Prengei was seen as a close ally of Dr Ruto and his absence from the Uhuru- chaired meeting was seen as an act of defiance.

But one year later, even before his fate as a Nominated Senator was determined, Prengei met his painful death along Nakuru- Kabarak road after being involved in a grisly road accident. The former senator died on the spot. He was 37 years at the time.

His death would suddenly unite country with President Kenyatta leading the nation in mourning.

But his death was seen more as a personal blow to Dr Ruto who was keen to marshall a political war-chest in readiness for the 2022 general election.
