Ngerian Afrobeats sensation, Wizkid, marked his late mother's posthumous birthday with a series of poignant messages on 'X'. The artist’s heartfelt tributes come as he teases his upcoming album, ‘Morayo,’ named in her honour.
According to reports from a close associate of the singer, his mother, Jane Dolapo, passed away in the early hours of Friday, August 18, 2023. She was then laid to rest on October 13, 2023.
In an outpouring of grief and nostalgia, Wizkid shared: “Happy birthday love of my life! Miss you every day. The first one without you here feels unreal. Nothing makes sense without you mama! Life is empty without you. Continue to watch over us! My heart is broken forever! Love you, love you, love you, MORAYO mi. Your smile is a memory I will never forget. Your laugh! Your hugs and kisses. I miss you dearly!”
Accompanying his words, Wizkid posted a touching video montage of his mother, captioned simply, “Morayo lives on.” The singer has previously revealed that his forthcoming album, ‘Morayo,’ is a tribute to his mother, whose name means “I see joy” in Yoruba.
Discussing the album, Wizkid reflected on his roots: “It’s very important for people to know where the source of my magic comes from. I’m African, I’m Nigerian; that’s my blood, that’s my DNA.”
He continued to pour his heart out in another post: “MORAYO!! Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!” Wizkid also extended his condolences to fans who have experienced similar losses, offering a prayer: “And to everyone that has ever lost their mother/family members or anyone close dealing with the struggle every day! God is real. And He will console and comfort you! PRAY.”
