Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched an intensive search for individuals responsible for the break-in at Bondo Police Station. The incident took place amidst nationwide protests that escalated into violence in various areas.

According to the DCI statement, the perpetrators, armed with crude weapons like stones, catapults, slings, petrol bombs, and other concealed items, targeted the Bondo Police Station. During the attack, several police officers were injured, and significant damage to property occurred, though the exact extent is yet to be assessed.

In a notable development, one suspect involved in a recorded incident where a police officer was assaulted and his anti-riot gear stolen has been apprehended. The stolen equipment has been recovered. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the remaining suspects identified in connection with the incident.

Following the protests linked to grievances over the Finance Bill 2024, reports emerged of widespread looting and destruction across various parts of Kenya. Businesses, including supermarkets, suffered substantial losses due to break-ins, thefts, and in some cases, arson.

Using CCTV footage and other video evidence, the DCI has identified individuals involved in these criminal activities and has deployed investigators across affected regions to pursue them. Within a short span, 204 suspects have been arrested for engaging in unlawful acts under the guise of protesting. The DCI emphasized that these individuals will face legal consequences for their actions.

The injured police officers, including the one critically wounded during the Bondo incident, have received medical attention, with some already discharged from hospital care.

The DCI urges the public to cooperate by providing any relevant information that could aid in apprehending the remaining suspects and maintaining peace and order during these challenging times.
