The Kogi State House of Assembly has chosen to prolong the terms of the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen for an additional six months.

This decision was made during their plenary session on Friday.

According to a report by Channels Television, this extension was prompted by a request from Governor Usman Ododo.

In a letter to the House, Governor Ododo explained the need for this extension.

He pointed out that the state is currently facing financial challenges, such as insufficient funds and high wage bills.

These financial difficulties are making it impossible to hold local government elections at this time.

During the plenary session, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf, presented the governor’s letter to the Assembly members.

He stressed the significance of the transition committee chairmen representing their local governments effectively.

The Speaker mentioned that the upcoming six months would be crucial for local governance. During this period, the chairmen are expected to submit regular reports to the Assembly.

The Speaker also reminded the chairmen of their duties.

He urged them to be conscious of their responsibilities and to serve as good representatives of their communities throughout the extended period.
