The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, June 30, 2024, disclosed that available information at the command's disposal indicated that some convicted criminals who had completed their jail terms have returned to the same spot under the Pen Cinema Bridge in Agege.

Hundeyin disclosed this on his X handle while responding to some of his followers who expressed worries over incessant cases of robbery and other criminal activities being perpetrated under the bridge, especially early in the morning and late in the night.

Hundeyin had, on Saturday, disclosed on his X handle that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, embarked on a fact-finding visit to the area following complaints of harassment and robberies under the bridge.

However, while responding to comments by some of his followers, Hundeyin said some convicted ones have completed their terms and are back to the same spot, adding that some will complete their terms next week and will be back there and others will complete their terms the following week and they will also return there.

One of his followers, who expressed worries over the increasing activities of robbers and other miscreants under the bridge, wondered why they are many there despite the fact that the area is surrounded by four police stations.

The follower, whose X handle is @rsd_rasheed, said in his post that there are Pen Cinema division, Elere division, isokoko division and Railway police post in the area, yet the place remains one of the most insecure environments in Lagos State.

Responding, Hundeyin wrote: "What if we were ready? We’ve arrested and prosecuted many. What else would you have us do? Some convicted ones have completed their terms and are out and back to the same spot.

"Some will complete their terms next week and will be back there, others will complete their terms the following week and will be back there. Will you provide them jobs? Will you light up that place at night? It’s a vicious cycle. We should be looking at root causes and not just fixing symptoms."

He however disclosed that during the visit of the state police boss to the area, he ordered a rejig of the security architecture, urging the Divisional Police Officers to ensure optimal provision of security.
