The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has issued a directive to crack down on vehicles operating on the roads with either a single or no plate number within the nation's capital. This order extends to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of those found to be in violation of this regulation.

According to the command's spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, Igweh has also cautioned car dealers against parking their vehicles in unauthorized areas and driving outside the designated hours. Adeh emphasized that the Commissioner of Police stressed that offenders would be subject to the full extent of the law.

In a statement released on Saturday, Adeh conveyed, "The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has given a marching order that vehicles plying the roads with a single or no number plate should be impounded, with the driver arrested and prosecuted. Also, he warns car dealers against parking their vehicles in an unauthorized parking lot and driving beyond the stipulated time, which is 6 pm., as defaulters will be made to face the full wrath of the law."

The statement continued to highlight the observation by the command regarding motorists and car dealers flaunting the single or no plate numbers regulation beyond the approved timeframe. She pointed out that such actions have been associated with incidents involving "one chance" operators in the FCT, urging all motorists and dealers to abstain from engaging in such practices.

Adeh specified, "The FCT Police Command has observed with serious concern how motorists and car dealers drive around the territory with single or no number plates and car dealers beyond the stipulated time, which is 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Section 25 (5) of the Federal Capital Territory Road Transport Regulation Act, 2005."

Citing instances of criminal activities linked to vehicles with inadequate or no identification, she stressed the need for compliance with the law to guarantee public safety. Adeh reiterated the commitment of the police in upholding the laws and ensuring the security of FCT residents, asserting that no individuals, whether motorists or car dealers, found breaching the established regulations would be exempted.
