In a statement released on Thursday, Senegalese customs officials reported that they had found over 360 kilogrammes of cocaine in the southeast of the nation, valued at $48.3 million.

In recent months, the police have seized an increasing amount of cocaine from neighboring nations, including Guinea, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Mali. These nations are thought to serve as transit zones for drugs generated in Latin America that are being transported to Europe.

A lorry carrying 365.4 kilogrammes of cocaine from an unidentified "neighboring" country was found in the town of Koupentoum, according to a statement from customs police.

The drugs, which were valued at $48.3 million or 29.2 billion CFA francs, were concealed beneath the truck's bed.

According to customs, this is the third cocaine seizure of this kind since January.

A road that leads to Mali and the Gambia passes through the town of Koupentoum.

Customs officials have reported on a number of cocaine discoveries in recent months, including a one-ton haul in mid-April in the east of the nation, close to the border with Mali, and multiple more seizures earlier this month.

The army made an announcement in November 2023 regarding the capture of almost three tonnes of cocaine from a ship that had been apprehended in international waters off the coast of Senegal.
