Arsenal has reportedly initiated talks with Barcelona for the potential acquisition of Jules Koundé this summer, as per Spanish media outlet Jijantes via Sport.

The 25-year-old defender proved to be a stalwart in Xavi Hernandez’s backline last season, featuring in 35 out of 38 La Liga matches for Barcelona.

His consistent performances earned him a place in Didier Deschamps’ French squad for Euro 2024, where he has participated in all three matches thus far.

According to Jijantes, Barcelona is keen on bolstering their squad for the upcoming season through strategic signings.

To facilitate these moves, the Catalan club aims to generate funds by offloading several players, with Koundé highlighted as one of those potentially on the market.

The report indicates that Arsenal has reached out to Barcelona to express their interest in securing the services of the French defender during this transfer window.

Koundé remains under contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2027.

Valued at €45 million (£38 million) by Transfermarkt, he could represent a cost effective addition for Arsenal should they succeed in persuading him to join the Emirates.

The negotiations reflect Arsenal's ambition to strengthen their defensive lineup ahead of the new season, while Barcelona strategizes to revamp their squad dynamics with significant transfers in mind.
