Rivers State Governor, Similanayi Fubara, has said that there is no cause to worry about the Appeal Court ruling which overruled the high court judgement that sacked the 27 pro-Wike’s lawmakers.

Governor Fubara, who spoke to journalists shortly after inspection of projects in Khana, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday, said because God had prepared him a table of blessings in the presence of his enemies he was not worried over the ruling.

He said: “I know that a lot of you will be wondering what is going on and all that. Government has its own challenges. If you go to the book of Psalm 23 verse 5, in the Bible, it said that God prepares a table before you; it can be before anybody. But there is an underlined word that should be noted there: it said ‘in the presence of your enemies’. So, it means that nothing comes easy.

“I want to assure everyone of you and the good people of Rivers State, that we are not deterred. We have made our promises, we will continue to give you good governance, no matter how difficult it is.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has said that granting full autonomy to local government areas will undoubtedly solve the problem of insecurity in the country.

General Lagbaja disclosed this on Friday in Jos during the Nigerian Army celebration, emphasizing that unless local communities experienced development, it would be difficult to end insecurity in Nigeria.

He said, “Why are the elites resistant to LG autonomy which people are clamouring for? The surest way to bring development to the grassroots level is to ensure LG autonomy. It’s not by establishing commissions or bureaucracies. We have already established bureaucracies. Until we take development to the grassroots level, we will not solve the problem of insecurity.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the suspension of its Warri-Itakpe rail service following a derailment incident on the corridor on Thursday evening.

The train, travelling from Itakpe in Kogi State to Ujevwu in Delta State, derailed at approximately 7:15pm.

Ediri Oyibo, a digital strategist and frequent user of the service, described the harrowing experience, noting that the train wobbled precariously at several points during the journey before it eventually derailed. “As a frequent user of the train service, riding on the train from Ujevwu to Itakpe on Wednesday, 3rd of July 2024, I practically had my heart between my teeth when the train wobbled along its track at several locations; one, on top of a valley crossing,” Oyibo recounted.
